They have planted over 10,000(!) Hectares of forests in Uganda in the past and are now putting their energy into bamboo!
This is great news for farmers. Maintaining plantations is costly. Together with Global Woods, we have developed a model where a farmers can finance their maintenance work in exchange for the bamboo biomass (waste) that is generated during maintenance.
GlobalWoods then turns the waste into bio-char, which they charge with nutrients to become a sustainable fertilizer. Through this system, carbon is stored long term. The bamboo forests then actually will have a negative carbon footprint! This is one of the major goals we aim together with The DOEN Foundation . Expect the first production location up and running in July 2026.
