🌿 From Bamboo Strategy to Bamboo Policy
Yesterday, 23rd October, key players in Uganda’s bamboo value chain met with officials from various government agencies, led by the Ministry of Water & Environment, to agree on a roadmap towards developing a National Bamboo Policy.
Also present were representatives from the Ministry of Works & Transport and the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development, alongside private sector leaders including Kontiki Ltd, Friends of Bamboo, Amabanda Uganda Limited, Bijimu, Studio Akeka, and Bamboo Tena. The Uganda Bamboo Association was also in attendance.
The meeting culminated in the formation of a National Bamboo Workgroup, which will guide the process through 2026/27 with broader participation from both public and private institutions. The session was generously supported by ENABEL, the Belgian development agency.
It was an inspiring moment — a united step towards a future where bamboo contributes to sustainable livelihoods, climate resilience, and green industry in Uganda. 🌱
